Good

I had a Yamaha sax, but my wife gave me a Jean Paul 860 for our 10th birthday, and the sound is super perfect, very clean and elegant.

This one is a keeper

I started playing alto sax all thoughout Jr. High, High Scholl and College with a Vito student sax which is now 43 yrs old and still plays well. I stopped playing for many years due my military career that was very demanding and raising family. 2 years ago I had the urge to play again and I bought a Better Sax which is well built and playes really nice but after playing every day and I wanted more from my alto sax. So I research high and low for a Professional Sax that would meet my specific needs cost wise and sound wise as well. The sax I wanted was out of stock so I left my information to be notified when it was available and sure enough I received an email noticed that the sax was in stock. So I decided to buy the Jean Paul 10th yr anniversary silver and gold model right then and there. Good thing I did because they have 2 left in stock lol. This sax is not only beatiful, well built but it sounds head and shoulders above anything I have ever played before. I am now 61 yrs old and playing this sax makes me feel like 12 yrs old again. I love everything about it. Others mention customer care and I agree, it is responsive and fast to want to meet your needs. Gracias Felipe!! I highly recommend this saxophone for any level sax player. Thats my baby below. Aint she gorgeous???

Decent Horn Upgrade

After playing for about 3 weeks on the horn it feels pretty nice. While $1500 is a great price for a professional model sax, there are some complaints I have. It already came in with a few scratches, marks, and discoloration around some areas. Just recently the glue has started coming off the pearls which I find confusing as I take care of instrument carefully. I personally find this sax to be 4.5 stars as it feels nice but it has those small things to watch out for.

Needed an Alto ASAP

I had my Yamaha Alto stolen and needed a quick inexpensive replacement! I came across an a review by Better Sax for a great inexpensive beginner horn. Found it on Amazon and it was delivered with in a couple of days. Used for several gigs, wasn’t even worry about replacing my horn because it did its job. I am retired and now play for my own enjoyment and perform with friends and at open mics so I’m not looking to spend a lot of money so I definitely will be trying out the AS 860.

From a mom - this is the absolute best company for your child and into adulthood

I first found Jean Paul USA before the pandemic. It was touted as an amazing saxophone at a tenth of the price from other companies. I went to all the music stores, heard about rentals, how I had to pay thousands, etc. I am SO GLAD I went with JP USA. My son, who was 13 at the time, fell in love with his student alto sax. He eventually went on to play professionally, and, this year (he is now 16) for Christmas, he asked for the professional alto saxophone. I got him the anniversary edition in silver with the gold bell.
Let me tell you - THIS IS AN ASTOUNDINGLY GOOD INSTRUMENT that is better then the Yamaha, Selmer et al. People in the industry are taking notice and buying these high quality saxophones. The customer service is next level. They know you by name, and treat you like family. They send videos of the instrument before shipment so you can see and hear it. They can diagnose the tiniest issue by phone or video, help with accessories, and their kindness motivates my son. He will be posting some videos to this site and his YouTube channel, but rest assured - this is THE ONLY saxophone company you should ever go with. EVER. If you have questions, as a consumer, I am happy to answer anything. [****]

Love my new sax !! 5 stars !!

I bought the AS860 silver , due to all the 5 star reviews of instrument and company . Was recommended by Jay Metcalf of BetterSax.com and saw many top reviews on YouTube . The sound is marvelous , so much clearer and sweet notes than my old Vito !! My friends in church orchestra are all impressed by workmanship . I bought the professional model bc I didn't want upgrade later from student model . I am only an intermediate player , already play clarinet , and learning the sax is easy at my age , 65 yo . I love the engraving on it , including engraving design on sidebar next to bell/thumbrest . not sure what name is . Love the great , kind customer service , and thank you to Jon Gasque , best there !
My picture is w my best friend who has played in orchestra w me for 46 yrs . Thank you , Jean Paul !!!

Jean Paul does it Again!

My third sax from JeanPaul, the AS-860 hits all the bases and rounds home plate with quality, tone, and value, at a price point half of most of it’s competitors. I already have owned and played their less expensive alto and tenor for over a year and was excited to hear about the new Pro model. After reading the rave online review I decided to bite the bullet and order their new offering, the AS860. It has proved to be everything I had hoped for in an alto sax, especially at the low price point. Their personal service and prompt shipping just puts the icing on the cake.

First Impression, Second Jean Paul

I am 64 years old and started practicing the saxophone during the pandemic restrictions in 2020. I originally purchased the AS-400 (Silver) from Jean Paul approximately 1 year ago. I had used a rental sax from a local music store and realized how bad of an instrument the rental was as soon as blew my first note on my AS-400. I had to have the cork replaced on the neck of the AS-400 after about 10 months of use, other than that one of the screws fell out of the low D key roller. I repaired this myself. However, I immediately realized I needed to have a back up saxophone since I was taking my practicing pretty seriously. Just in case you have not realized it, I absolutely love my AS-400 silver edition. It sounds absolutely beautiful. It is a gorgeous instrument and the workmanship is apparent in every aspect of the instrument.

Anyhow, I went to the music store with the intent of purchasing a Yamaha professional alto sax. However, after playing the new Yamaha instrument for approximately 30 minutes, I realized I actually enjoyed playing my AS-400 a lot more and considering the Yamaha was approximately $2500 more than my $699 Jean Paul there was no way I was going to purchase it. I had seen the review of the AS-860 by Dr. Wally on youtube. The fact that he was doing the review without any obligation or commitment to Jean Paul was important to me as well as his perspective as a professional and accomplished musician. I took a second chance with Jean Paul and ordered the AS-860. I received it in mid October 2021 and I can honestly say, "I love the instrument." In fact, my teacher is now searching the Jean Paul music site in order to order herself an instrument from Jean Paul. I have had one performance so far and I am in the process of preparing for a holiday concert (for my wife). The quality of the AS-860 is nothing to be reckoned with. It is meticulous in every detail of quality. Even though Dr. Wally mentioned the rough edges around the bell of the instrument he reviewed, I had none. I do like my JP AS-400 case more than the JP AS-860 case, however I don't play the case and I am not traveling at this point with my instrument. Therefore I am fine. In addition. I immediately noticed the extra bells and whistles on the AS-860. The instrument is a professional grade instrument and I have literally almost put down my AS-400 completely, since I enjoy playing the AS-860 so much. You did a great job.

There is one last issue I would like to mention, however it does not affect the playing of the instrument at this time. On the neck of the instrument, near where it slides into the body of the horn, the gold coloring is changing (see photos below). It started with what appeared to be almost a tear drop sized discoloration but is growing around the entire bottom of the neck. If this continues I will be requesting a new neck for the instrument. This is the only issue I have experience so far with the AS-860.

Keep up the good work and I may be purchasing a tenor sax later.

It had to happen

Greetings from the asylum!!
As I said in reviews of my AS 400 I had stopped playing almost 30 yrs ago so I had wanted to start back slowly with as inexpensively as possible without sacrificing quality and performance
The AS 400 fit this bill and exceeded it in both cases
It’s easy to get and stay motivated if your using a good piece of equipment.
So I found myself back in the zone with the quality AS 400 (note that the many video reviews are clearly honest)
Jumped ahead and just got my AS 860 delivers 2 days ago and this is a beautiful horn too and it again exceeds expectations
I don’t know much about AI but if I can figure out how to put my head on the video of Mario running through the octaves at lightning speed I’ll send to my Academy buddies and claim his talent
Once again Jean Paul does not fail to impress (my 4th JP sax

Jean Paul AS-860 10 year anniversary edition

Ordered and received the AS-860 anniversary edition alto saxophone with white pearl keys and love it. The horn is beautiful and plays great. I also have the Jean Paul TS-860 tenor saxophone with white pearl and it’s great also. They match each other well and are great horns. I want to thank everyone at Jean Paul for great customer service and allowing me to special order the AS-860 alto anniversary edition with white pearl keys instead of the black pearls to match my Tenor.

A treasure to treasure that's within student's budget!

Tim delivered absolutely phenomenal customer service from start to finish. He was patient, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience feel personal and effortless. That level of care really set the tone for how much I enjoy this instrument. The on‑time delivery was the final touch that made the whole experience even better.
The saxophone itself is outstanding. The keys are soft, gentle, and incredibly responsive—playing higher notes takes almost no pressure, and the low notes speak just as easily. The tone is naturally bright, yet it adapts beautifully depending on the mouthpiece I use. The Florida State 10th Anniversary etching is a gorgeous detail, and the instrument is surprisingly lightweight, making longer sessions an absolute joy. I’m genuinely delighted to be the proud owner of this curved angel.
A few areas could be improved. The case is still the old‑fashioned rectangular style, and a more modern, ergonomic design would make a big difference. Including a laminated fingering chart would be a thoughtful addition for quick reference. The neck strap was the biggest disappointment—it felt like the poorest‑quality item in the entire package, especially compared to how premium the saxophone itself feels.
Even with those small areas for improvement, I absolutely love this new model and strongly recommend owning one—or at least giving it serious consideration before paying more for other brands. I enjoy every minute I spend playing it, and it has quickly become my favorite instrument to pick up regularly through the week.

Great pro alto

I'm very impressed with the 10th anniversary alto by Jean Paul. It sounds amazing, feels great under the fingers, and has really good intonation! Besides looking amazing and being super responsive, it is extremely affordable! You've out done yourself, Jean Paul!

Stopped working after 4 months

My son played this saxaphone for 4 months and one of the key pads stop sealing properly. I looked on the website and they only have a 90 day warranty and only a 30 day if you dont register the instrument online. I really think the quality should be better for $1700 dollars. And I can't believe they dont have a 2 year warranty like most places. I should've looked up the warranty before purchasing, that one's on me.

Transformative!

My new AS-860 really accelerates my learning curve on account of easy blowing and incredibly better key ergonomics — not to mention it's visually delightful and, well, brand new! (I’m glad I did not blow my budget overhauling my old Martin, I would have missed out on the AS-860 experience.) With an S80-C* mouthpiece I’m getting clean clear notes in all ranges. The case is nicely designed and everything fits well including my rather fat notebook of sheet music. Customer service from Jean Paul has so far lived up to its reputation. Felipe’s responses are clear, friendly and prompt.

Excellent Tone and Intonation - Arrived Nicely Set Up

I've had zero problems with my new Jean Paul pro alto sax so far. Very happy with the tone, which sounds as good to me as my other alto sax, a vintage Buescher Big B. The difference is the Jean Paul has improved intonation and is more even across the range of the instrument, as compared with the Buescher. I also like the look of the black key touches against the silver body, and look forward to seeing its finish form a little patina in the years to come.
