I bought this trumpet for my high school age granddaughter who is a flute player.
She received it on Christmas and has been trying it out and seems to be very pleased with it.
My husband and I opened it and were pleased with the presentation.
I will definitely purchase from you in the future and recommend you to my friends.
Thank you for the personal touch you added to the purchase.
My qualifier...I purchased mine used on ebay from a seller not affiliated with Jean Paul. It did not appear the trumpet had seen much usage. This is my second Jean Paul trumpet; my other is a 860 Pro which I purchased new.
My horn looked new. There three small surface imperfections that I believe were always there...barely noticeable on close inspection. Otherwise the yellow brass / nickel contrasts are quite nice and overall, the trumpet looks elegant.
The valves weren't as responsive as I wanted. I noted gray discoloration when clean my valve pistons which I believe was from factory lapping when the instrument was new. So I gave my horn a bath. Brushed the valve inner walls and spent time eliminating any gray shadows on the slide insides. Then dried, oiled and reinstalled the pistons. I turned the trumpet upside down and oiled the valves again before reinstalling the bottom caps. Whala! Valve responsiveness much crisper and clean.
Overall, I think that, as compared to my other horns, this trumpet is on the heavy side which is fine with me.
The Trumpet is easy blowing, well slots your notes and has a nice tone, a bright overall sound...not tinny, weak or dull.
I am happy with my purchase and have really enjoyed playing it for a few days. I have found lately, that all my new horns initially need a bath...just do it. Makes a great student without question. Seems to respond to all I try to do with it...plays in low, mid and high register readily. Jean Paul support and responsive with my other trumpet was quick and impeccable.
My daughter has been playing trumpet for around four years now. She is in a homeschool band that is hosted by a local private college. That got her invited into a local public school honor band for high school students. I believe ten different schools were invited, and out of that, there were twelve trumpet players that included students up to twelfth grade. Using the $199 base model trumpet, she got first chair over all the other trumpet players! She is only in ninth grade (and has braces, lol!). She is a fantastic player, but even with that, it shows this trumpet isn't overhyped. A professional world-class trumpet player (He has a doctorate in music, and I found out some of his recorded music is now the standard other players are compared to) was the trumpet judge for this competition, and he picked this trumpet and player over the others using more expensive instruments.
I also play trumpet, and I use a King Silverstar that retails around $1700. I prefer hers to mine, and I am looking at the professional Jean-Paul trumpet for both us now.
The trumpet has never given us any trouble, and the valves and slides have worked great. The band director that auditioned her played this instrument (he owns an old Bach trumpet he uses professionally), and commented the intonation is good all the way into the higher register. It was also better than another F Schmidt trumpet we were auditioning as an upgrade (Supposedly a $2k trumpet that compares to Bach's, but there is no way). He didn't care for my King trumpet either when he tried it, lol! :)
Don't let the name throw you off. Quality doesn't require a lot of brand recognition or markup. Good job Jean-Paul!
Great starter trumpet for my 9 year old son. We had an issue with a valve after only 5 months of having it but after a quick FaceTime call the tech knew immediately that it was my son’s error for putting it back together incorrectly. So glad it was an easy fix. Thanks for the support. That is much more important than you know!
